Monthly Top 5 - December 2020
Hi there,
2020 was hard. I think we're all thankful it is behind us.
At the beginning of the year, my goal was to create more content for you in 2020 than in 2019. I unfortunately hadn’t factored in a global pandemic… So, suffice to say I did not meet that objective…
However, I am proud of the quality of the content that did come out this year. Pure Procurement is a one man labor of love. I am typically on client mandates full time during the year and 2020 was no different. Content is therefore only produced when there are a few minutes to spare and something important to say.
The objective of the content on Pure Procurement continues to be to educate Procurement and IT professionals on how to master the complexities of digital transformation in Procurement to attain desired outcomes faster, while minimizing implementation cost.
I strongly believe that being out in the field delivering projects is vital for me to be credible in this pursuit. When you read a Pure Procurement article, know that what you are reading is based on a decade of toil, sweat and tears… If reading minimizes your toil and sweat while avoiding the tears, I’ve done my job!
However, even with minimal new content, active subscribers grew almost 100% in 2020 and for that, I thank you! I take it as an indicator that you get value from the content, regardless of its frequency.
Below, I’ve compiled the articles and podcasts from 2020 so you can check out anything you may have missed.
I’ve also listed my content goals for 2021 so you know what to expect in the coming year. Thanks again for reading in 2020.
I appreciate the heck out of you for it and look forward to sharing interesting ideas together again in 2021.
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out if there's anything I can do for you or just to say hello!
Best,
Joël

This was my first year publishing a newsletter. I gave myself the year to experiment, adjust and learn with this medium in order to figure out how to best use it.
While I enjoyed putting together the newsletter, it was always a mammoth task as I did not want to leave anything out of the respective sections (e.g. Source-to-Pay News). That led to me skipping certain months as time ran out for me to put it together the way I wanted to.
However, based on above industry average open (50%) and click (11.5%) rates, my conclusion is that the exercise generates value for you. I’m therefore making a few adjustments to the format for 2021 in order to up consistency and will keep the experiment going!
See the 2021 goals for details.
2021 Content Goals
Given how things have gone in 2020 and what I already know about my schedule in 2021, here’s what you can expect from Pure Procurement next year:
1. Rebrand PureProcurement.ca with the aim of:
Making existing content more accessible by topic/subject
Making a better-looking, more functional homepage
2. A minimum of 6 long form articles
I always have a backlog of topics I want to get to but if you have a specific S2P question, please do reach out. The best posts are the ones that meet a need! This will always be free.
3. A minimum of 4 Podcast episodes
Interviews on useful, evergreen topics related to Procurement digital transformation with another leader in the field.
These will be released once a quarter
4. The Pure Procurement Monthly Newsletter
The format will be shortened to include only a Top 5 of the most valuable Procurement content I came across that month. These can be articles, podcasts, events, etc. The only criteria is they have to generate immediate value for you.
This change will make the newsletter easier to produce and read while ensuring it is delivered at a predictable time on the last day of every month.
Happy new year to you and yours.
Here's to hoping we turn the page on the worst of the pandemic in 2021!
