Monthly Top 5 - March 2020

Hi there,

I hope everything is going well for you.

I'm sure you are now also in "Corona Virus World". There's been lots of noise about this event and the impact it can have on you and your companies. In addition to the regular content this month, I tried to collect the articles I found most useful in these uncertain times.

Enjoy this edition of Pure Procurement Monthly. Here's to hoping we can all get back to our "regularly scheduled programming" as soon as possible.

New Blog Content

As Procurement, you can only be effective when you are generating value for your stakeholders. However, how can you get yourself in a position to do that when starting out in a new commodity or context?

My Favorite Procurement Articles This Month

There's a lot of noise about Corona Virus in the media. What to believe? If you only read a single long form article, it should be this one. Then you can ignore the rest and just listen for governmental updates.

History is repeating itself. This is a great case study of the last flu pandemic that we can learn from. Not really procurement but definitely puts things in perspective. This has happened before!

That clause on your contracts that is always brushed off by saying "Ah we put that in there but it's never been used... It's for "act of god" events. Is it the first time to use it?

Quick CIPS checklist to ensure you are prioritizing the right things in your Procurement department in these "CoronaVirus times".

Events is the Procurement that is most immediately hit by the Corona Virus context. Here's a few tips to ensure you are not missing anything as you mitigate the impacts of this virus on your event spend.

Source to Pay in the News

  • 2020-02-17Amazon wins US court injunction on JEDI contract. This is one of the biggest stories going on in Procurement right now. The US Pentagon recently awarded a 10 bn$ USD cloud contract to Microsoft. Amazon is claiming the awarding of the project was motivated by political enmity.

  • 2020-02-28 - In late February, Consider Solutions published the results of their Global Source-to-Pay, Purchase-to-Pay survey which surveyed nearly 500 companies on their Procurement pain points and challenges. It was very interesting to see which pain points are common around the world. Opportunity for software developers? Unfortunately, the only way to get a copy right now is to e-mail the company. You can find out how to do that on their LinkedIn page (free report).

  • 2020-03-09 - Amazon 'likely to win' in JEDI contract challenge. The lastest installement of the "Stall Wars"
